Unarguably the heart of Dubai, located on the western bank of Dubai Creek, is a Persian-influenced traditional Gulf architectural neighbourhood. Al Shindagha whispers the tales of this Arabian City long before skyscrapers were erected. Where Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai was born and spent a large portion of his childhood. To protect its charming traditional architecture, the region has gone through a meticulous restoration with 162 historic buildings renovated to preserve the traditional structures.
Al Shindagha Museum is one of the historical marvels of this city where all visitors are invited to take a dive into the past of Dubai and its resilience in moving forward towards becoming one of the richest cities in the world. It was built with the vision to transform Dubai Creek into a cultural centre.
Themed into 3 pavilions and a total of 21 houses, it lets you experience and understand Emirati culture. How is traditional perfume (itar) is made? What was the jewellery like? How did the Royals plan and negotiate in the 19th century? Why is cultural food so important? Everything you ever questioned about this traditional yet modern city is answered in the lanes of this museum.
At the Traditional Craft House, you can see how every part of the date palm, a staple in the middle east, is used to stunning ingenious objects.
The newest addition is the Al Maktoum Residence and like the name suggests, home to four generations of leaders who brought Dubai global significance. This area is filled with historical information.
Exciting Workshops
If vision learning is not your thing, then don’t miss out on the hands-on workshops from gypsum sculpting to jewellery making. Six unique activities are available at a particular time slot filled with creativity.

Take the Metro to Al Ghubaiba Metro Station which is opposite to the museum’s house.

Private parking is available for the museum along Al Khaleej Street.
